Martial Arts and Weight Training When it comes to weight training and martial arts, it is important to avoid exercises that place strain on ligaments and tendons - you have to make a point to avoid angles that strain tendons and ligaments. Many athletes and body builders feel that if they change the angles of movement and emphasize different muscles during muscle contraction that they are going to get significantly different gains. However, there are studies that show that this is not only NOT TRUE, but what often results, are tendon and ligament damage. For instance, if you are doing squats, you may want to adjust the angles of your feet and apply pressure to the inside of your foot - there is some freedom here for adjustment and gains, but in SOME instances, what often happens, is that the angle of the foot is too much, and what results, is ligament and/or tendon damage. |
