Motivation Strategies

1. Vision: Assist students with establishing a vision for themselves.

2. Choices/Options: Give the student choices and options.

3. Value: Value the student's opinions and accomplishments.

4. Praise: Use general and specific praise.

5. Success Rate: Create the opportunity for the student to have a high success rate.

6. Learning Style: Take time to understand the student's learning style and use multi-sensory instruction ie books on tape.

7. Blocks: Have the student write down personal goals, and then write down five to ten things that are preventing them from achieving those goals.

8. Variety: Have a variety of lessons ie role plays, videos, diorama's, projects, multimedia...

9. Word Choice: If you can ignite their imagination ...

10. Clarity: In some instances, if the students see a final product of what the treacher wants, then they will have a clearer understanding of what they need to do. Putting the criteria on poster board and leaving it up on the wall for the duration of the assignment can also add to clarity.
