Careers and Communication
"In a recent survey of recruiters from companies with more than 50,000 employees, communication skills were cited as the single more important decisive factor in choosing managers. The survey, conducted by the University of Pittsburgh's Katz Business School, points out that communication skills, including written and oral presentations, as well as an ability to work with others, are the main factor contributing to job success."

"In spite of this increasing importance placed on communication skills, many individuals continue to struggle, unable to communicate their thoughts and ideas effectively - whether in verbal or written format. This inability makes it nearly impossible for them to compete effectively in the workplace, and stands in the way of career progression."

Communication Tips for the Workplace
Ask for Clarification.
Ask your boss for safety rules/guidelines for all areas in the workplace.
Ask your boss or superviser to write down the directions or to make a list of the materials that you have to get.
Talk to your immediate superviser about problems; going to his/her superviser first may cause problems.
Read safety signs in the workplace and if you're not sure, then ask for more information.
Don't believe everything that you hear in the workplace.
Be willing to accept criticism (correction) in the workplace.
We all make mistakes but we learn from our mistakes.
In the workplace treat others in a way that you would like to be treated.
Have positive things to say in the workplace.
Take time to think about how you are communicating at work: Are you positive?, Do you accept criticism?, Do you listen properly?
